Founded in 2012 by Durham-based DJs Laura Friederich (Queen Plz) and Patrick Phelps-McKeown (Treee City), Party Illegal is a continually evolving party crew and sound system collective that aims to create a safe space for experimentation. Party Illegal embraces collaboration and organic growth, pushes back against white supremacy and gender binaries, and aims to educate about consent culture in party spaces. Our goal is to bridge cultural and genre divides while empowering women and trans / queer / POC DJs and producers. Party Illegal is a work in progress, a co-created experience, a wandering journey. We encourage weird art, complex discussion, and utopian dreams.
